HIP HOP MACEDONIA CV

Today hip-hop culture is a global trend. Its influence is present in every sphere of the social life. Principally it is an expression of the young people ideals. From a subculture of the Afro-Americans and the poor population from the ghetto in the USA it has grown into a significant economic, media, education and political factor in a global way. Macedonia, too, is not an exception to this global trend. The existence of a population which practices the hip – hop as their own way of expression, has motivated us to create an institution that will help the people to get to know the hip-hop in a much easier way, both the home as well as the foreign scene.

The aim of Hip Hop Macedonia is the development of the home hip-hop scene and its promotion across the boarders of our country. The Board of this organization decided to present the hip-hop culture in a quite different way and to include various tasks which are accomplished by its members in order to  realize the given idea and purpose. That is why we make rap music - to help the young people who want to find themselves in a noncomformist way of expressing their feelings, we organize hip-hop festivals and rap parties, publish books and hold lectures on hip-hop in our institutions, as well as undertake many other activities in order to enrich the musical and cultural scene in our country. We also cooperate with many artists and publishing houses, as well as institutions from  all over the Balkans and our activities are appropriately presented in the home and foreign media. Our videos can be seen on every TV channel in our country as well as on MTV Adria, where we had a special episode dedicated to the work of our group Klan Istok.    

We run the nongovernmental organization named Urban Institute, which is dedicated to the development of the contemporary (modern) urban way of life within our country and abroad, as well as to cherishing the hip-hop culture. Urban Institute is a legal, nongovernmental and nonprofit organization which includes members of all profiles: hip-hop artists, people from the show business, university professors, businessmen, ambitious students... A part of the Urban Institute is the publishing house "NIE" and the web site www.hiphopmacedonia.com.
 
We have the recording studio and label Arena Records, which dispose with professional equipment appropriate to requirements of creating quality music. There we have realized six projects in fact, six music albums:

We also own the Macedonian website for hip-hop www.hiphopmacedonia.com, where hip hoppers can be informed about every event in our country and abroad, and to get to know something more about hip-hop culture.
We have published three books about hip-hop culture, the only ones on the Balkans of this kind:

We have established the first Macedonian coffee bar specialized in hip-hop music Sofija, where we organize hip-hop parties all the time.

We have been teaching hip-hop culture in our institutions, in high schools like “Josip Broz “- Skopje, “Orce NIkolov” – Skopje, cultural centre “Tocka”, the Faculty of Philosophy” – Skopje, the Amerucan Corner in Skopje

We can also mention our performances in the largest diskoteques in Skopje and Macedonia, such as our solo concerts in “Element”, Colloseum, Be Two, Castro, In Bulgaria - Sofia with RZA, the front men of the legendary Wu - Tang Clan; the Balkan Hip-Hop Festival, In Bulgaria - Sofia with the old school legend from New York – Jeru The Damaja and in Varna (Bulgaria) with Busta Rhymes, Rock Fest Skopje 2008, and in numerous clubs across our country. Our DJ performs and is a resident DJ in the biggest clubs in Skopje, such as Mesto, Castro, T-Club, Sector, Vila, In cafe, Dynamic Club, Fm Cafee and so on.

Should we say more about us and about our work? In order to keep animating the hop-hop devotees, we will  further continue with active work in this field that we feel really close to our hearts.
